How to use Craft / The writing loop

The writing loop.

Four moves run on every piece. None of them is ceremony — each is one plain-language ask, and the last one makes the next piece better.

  1. 1Brief + draft

Start from your own best work.

The brief is your closest real passages (with the reason you approved them), your rules up front, and the failure modes you rejected under Avoid. Evidence, not vibes.

  2. 2Check

    Gate every draft.

Not a model grading a model — a deterministic gate. Every violation names its rule, shows the exact span, and carries a fix. Style rules respect quotes and irony; policy rules never bend.

Check it against my profile, fix what fails, and check again.

With the voice score on, check also reports 0–100 “sounds like you” — and abstains honestly when the corpus is too thin to judge.

  3. 3Teach

Three moves. Pick one per piece.

    • Approve what lands — stored with your reason; future briefs cite why it works.
    • Reject what doesn't — Craft mines the rejection and offers the hard rule it found. One yes, and the complaint becomes permanent enforcement.
    • Or just hand back your edit — it learns from the diff. Teaching without writing a single instruction.

Approve the final version — rationale: direct, concrete, no hype.

    Or teach from your edit

Here's my edited version of your draft. Learn from the difference.

  4. 4Select & recover

    Best-of-N, and rescue over rewrite.

rank scores candidates against the same gate — a rule-breaking draft never beats a clean one. revise recovers a failing draft with grammar-safe fixes and a redline of every edit.

Write three takes on the opener and let Craft pick the one most like me.

Next: rules & guards — turning taste into enforcement.
